An industrial design protects the visual appearance of a product. This may include the shape, contours, lines, colours, texture, ornamentation, or other aesthetic features of a product or its parts.
Industrial design protection applies to the external design of products, such as packaging, consumer goods, furniture, electronic devices, clothing, or graphical interfaces.
The scope of protection is determined primarily by the images of the product submitted with the application. These images (views from different angles) define the features of the design that receive legal protection.
In Ukraine, an industrial design certificate may remain valid for up to 25 years, subject to periodic renewal.
Requirements for industrial design protection
To be registered, an industrial design must meet two key criteria:

novelty – the design must not be identical to designs disclosed before the filing date;

individual character – the overall impression produced on an informed user must differ from previously known designs.
