Patent Prosecution of Inventions & Utility Models

Inventions and utility models protect technical solutions — devices, systems, materials, or methods that solve a specific technical problem. Such protection is granted through a patent issued by a patent office.

Patentable subject matter may include:

  • devices and technical systems;

  • technological or manufacturing methods;

  • new uses of known products or materials;

  • electronic systems and configurations;

  • chemical substances and compositions.

Certain subject matter cannot be patented, including computer programs as such, mathematical methods, business methods, algorithms, or rules for games and sports.

Patent protection usually lasts up to 20 years for inventions and up to 10 years for utility models, provided that maintenance fees are paid.
